It's all change at iceni. We've built a brand new website packed with clips of advertising, broadcast, corporate, educational media and motion graphics projects, just for you.

This is the info you're looking for from our archive, but while you're here, stay a while and have a look around.
iceni's Environmental Policy

Our rural location in the Midlands makes us all the more committed to delivering the very best visual communications in an environmentally sound and sustainable manner.

We aim to minimise any adverse impact we may have on the environment through our day-to-day activities, whilst maintaining and improving, as best we can, efforts put in place to enhance our environmental performance.

The Environmental Policy Framework we implement manages our overall environmental and sustainability responsibilities by ensuring that each member of our managerial, production, and design teams act in a way that does not result in detrimental effects to the environment. We positively encourage the development of our team's own initiatives, and actively seek to improve our environmental management standards.

The Framework consists of the following objectives:

Travel

We will monitor and record every mile of road, rail and air travel, on every project. The greenhouse gas emissions produced by our production teams and crews travel will be offset at absolutely no extra cost to clients.

Through an approved offsetting scheme, carbon emissions from essential travel are 'balanced' by payments to companies dedicated to reducing global warming. As well as cutting greenhouse gases, the projects help to improve people's standards of living and protect wildlife habitats.

iceni's 2006 offsetting contributions have gone towards projects in India and Uganda that promote renewable energy, energy efficiency and rainforest restoration.

Energy and Electricity

As a busy production company, iceni makes use of many computers, edit suites, lighting and monitors which are integral to our work. We are aware of the energy that this equipment requires and the associated carbon emissions that can be generated as a result of their use.

Our electricity supply comes from Good Energy Ltd. 100% of this electricity supply to our studio is generated from wind, wave, small scale hydro and solar power, creating zero grams of CO2.

That doesn't mean we can just waste energy though. Where possible we...

* Ensure that individual machines are only switched on as they are required. When they are not in use, a conscious effort is made to switch them off at the mains supply and preserve energy.
* Set monitors to auto-power off, or to automatically switch to their default energy saving options, when not in use.
* Ensure that lighting is only switched on when required, making use of lovely free daylight in the office and studio.
* Make sure that every operator switches off the mains supply to their machine at the end of the day. This not only ensures that energy is not wasted overnight, but also complies with our health and safety / fire policy.

Waste and Recycling

iceni actively encourages waste reduction, re-use and recycling. This is implemented as part of our Environmental Policy Framework by:

* Monitoring waste disposal to ensure that business waste is correctly disposed of, and where possible is re-used to promote the sustainability of the local environment.
* Re-using scrap paper and other materials within the office. There are scrap paper boxes around the studio so where possible, both sides of the paper is used.
* Shredding and recycling ALL WASTE PAPER material to reduce the mass of paper waste sent to landfill.
* Allowing each member of staff access to recycle 'bins' at the studio and encouraging them to recycle plastic bottles, cans and cardboard.
* Food waste from our kitchen is disposed of in a wormery where hungry tiger worms turn it into compost for our garden.
* Using solid ink printers that produce 90% less waste than an average laser printer.
* Keeping hippos in the toilet cisterns - a hippo is a type of gel sac that reduces the volume of water in every flush.

Schemes are monitored to allow for continual improvement and development, hopefully resulting in a better environmental policy for iceni and a better environment for everyone.
