DELIVERY
In these days of short web videos, it’s commonplace to break up a mid-length training video into several shorter clips, that can then be accessed online or from a DVD menu.
This gives the viewer the option to pause after each section and ensure they’ve understood the content (and the option to watch again if necessary). A series of shorter clips like this can also work well if the video is being delivered in a training room. It allows the opportunity for a group discussion or Q&A session after each video. Again this repetition helps the viewer to absorb and learn the information.
Attention spans are getting shorter and working through a series of video clips gives the user a sense of progression as they click their way through the series.
So, having given them an introduction and then delivered this content, a summary with onscreen bullet points helps the brain absorb and remember the information.
To ensure that your viewer is fully engaged you can use interactive video that demands their input. At the end of each section, you can ask a question and give the viewer 2 or more options to choose from. Depending on their answer, they are then taken to another corresponding video.
This type of interactive learning can be delivered online via a video channel like Youtube or on a DVD.
Corporate training videos are most successful when they are concise and full of creative illustrations that keep the viewer entertained. Sometimes it might be necessary to give an overview to a subject and then refer the viewer to more detailed literature. You can add pdfs to a DVD which users can access and download on a pc or provide links online to further reading.
You might want to consider a digital magazine style training tool. Think of this as a text book with moving images. You can mix sections of text with short video clips and animations, slide shows, interactive pictures that the user can zoom in on and spin 360 degrees.
This will very much depend on whether your audience is tech savvy and likely to have access to an iPad or similar tablet. However, if they do, with this form multimedia production you can create a highly effective and modern training tool.
