At the end of every project it is my responsibility to gather together all of the project information so that I can ensure that every video is licensed correctly. Music is licensed through MCPS – the Mechanical Copyright Protection Society.

The International Short Film Festival at Clermont Ferrand is something of a stronghold for moving image, motion graphics and virals, and is a great barometer of what to expect for the rest of the year in both long and short format on small and big screens.
I’m Lee, a producer/director at iceniTV. Last weekend I headed the 680 miles south to the French city of Clermont Ferrand for ham and cheese baguettes, comic Anglo-French mistranslations and most importantly, the International Short Film Festival.

Once the Director has decided on the sort of location / environment for the filming, as the Producer it is my role to source / recce the locations and surrounding areas and get the legal permissions sorted. (One tip to remember – think about where the crew need to be get the shots that are required. This can affect who you need permission from.)
Sourcing locations involves taking a detailed brief from the Director. It is important to make sure I know exactly what needs to be filmed, what key aspect the location must have, what points would it be good to have and what is the budget. I would then gather together a list of my suggestions to meet the brief so that the options can be discussed with the client before I arrange to go and have a look.

If your video is going to be shown on your website or on an online shop product page, it’s likely that your viewer searched for your specific product and then clicked to watch the video and find out more. Your audience is more receptive a customer watching an in-store video.

If you’re making a promotional video, then you want a high quality film that will make the product or service look good.
The product and your customer demographic will inform the style of programme but you also need to consider where and why they’re watching.
