If you’re investing in a promotional video or advert, then a behind the scenes video is a great way to create further buzz about the video production process itself – which in turn creates a buzz about your brand.
The ‘making of’ video elevates a video production or shoot to an event – which gets talked about online.
If your main video is original and imaginative; has involved some careful planning or involves a celebrity (ie. there is a talking point there), then a behind the scenes video will get attention from industry creatives, customers and fans alike.
Giving the audience an insider’s view of the process gives them additional insight in the brand and its culture. They get to see the people working on the project and hear their ideas behind it.
And having invested the time in watching a behind the scenes video, people will be more interested to see the end result. The behind the scenes video almost invites the viewer to assess the final video and decide for themselves whether it is effective.
All of this essentially means that your audience are watching for longer and are more engaged than if they had passively watched the main video.

Of course, not everyone has a big budget video shoot to talk about. What about a photo shoot?
Photoshoot video production is very popular. People are fascinated by photography so it’s great to watch professional photographers, stylists and set designers at work. If the photo shoot is creating beautiful still images, then why not create beautiful moving images at the same time.
We recently had the great pleasure of filming Emily Atack, star of the Inbetweeners and FHM cover girl.
In between photos, we had a few dough balls and a nice chat about her life after Inbetweeners and her new video blog.
We shot the behind-the-scenes video, keeping a very low profile, while the photographer, stylist and talent did their thing. No surprise, the photos were gorgeous.
Whatever your product or campaign is, an online behind the scenes video is a great way to extend reach and add value.
